BREAKING NEWS: INDIA REJECTS CHINA’S LADAKH OBJECTION

China’s October 13 objection to India’s formal identification of 28 locations in Ladakh has renewed attention to India’s territorial sovereignty and Tibet’s place in Himalayan security. New Delhi rejected Beijing’s objection, reaffirming that Ladakh is an integral and inalienable part of India. The dispute comes just over a month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met at the BRICS summit in New Delhi. China’s account of that meeting emphasised partnership, mutual respect and peace in border areas. Beijing’s renewed objection raises questions about how those assurances translate into respect for India’s position on Ladakh.
