In Conversation with Thubten Tenzin: Tibet’s Early War Photographer
We recently sat down with Thubten Tenzin, popularly known as “Nyasha,” to hear about his remarkable journey from Tibet to exile. Born in Tibet in 1936, he witnessed the events of 1959 before coming into exile and later training as a photographer in Norway.
In the early 1970s, he travelled to Mustang, Nepal, where he documented Chushi Gangdruk Tibetan resistance fighters through photographs and film. Now 90, he reflects on his life in Tibet, journey into exile, career as a photographer, and firsthand experiences documenting the Tibetan resistance.
