A flash flood swept through parts of Nepal’s mountainous Rasuwa district on Wednesday, damaging settlements and key infrastructure near the Tibet border as authorities warned of possible casualties and further losses.
Syapru Besi and Timure, in the district with a population of about 50,000, were among the worst-affected areas. Officials urged residents living along the banks of the Bhote Koshi river to move to higher ground.
“We have reports of villages and infrastructure project sites being washed away,” District Administrator Narendra Pariyar told Reuters. No immediate estimate of casualties or property losses was available.
“There could be heavy casualties or loss of property,” he added. “But I cannot say for sure now.”
