A social media controversy in Nepal over the acronym “TOB” has led to widespread misinformation and xenophobic attacks against Tibetans. The debate began after photos of youths wearing “TOB” shirts surfaced from the September Gen Z protests. Many users claimed it stood for “Tibetan Original Bloodline,” accusing Tibetans of hijacking the movement. Rapper and adviser Surendra “Hakim” Gurung clarified that “TOB” means “The Original Brothers,” a motorcycle group with diverse members, not a political group. Gurung said the issue has been distorted, fueling racism and false links to the Free Tibet movement.
