The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) held a prayer service at Thekchen Choeling in Dharamsala on Thursday morning to mark 49 days since the death of Tibetan self-immolator Lobga Rangzen. Sikyong Penpa Tsering and the Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE) are scheduled to lead a protest march following the prayer service. Speaking to reporters, Sikyong Penpa Tsering recalled Lobga Rangzen’s sacrifice and acknowledged the series of actions undertaken by Tibetans in response to his self-immolation. The Sikyong also warned about China’s newly implemented Ethnic Unity Law, saying the legislation is aimed at erasing Tibetan identity, culture and distinctiveness. He urged the international community to pay closer attention to the implications of the law, warning that its impact extends beyond Tibetans and other ethnic communities under Chinese rule and has wider implications for the international community.
