On August 12, 2026, around 50 Tibetan men, women and elderly people concluded a 24-hour hunger strike and peace protest at Chaura Maidan in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. Organised by the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, Shimla, the protest began at 4 pm on August 11, demanding international attention to Tibet and opposing policies they say undermine Tibetan language, culture and religious identity. Protesters also held the hunger strike in memory of Lobsang Rangzen, who self-immolated outside the UN headquarters in New York on July 2. Source: ANI
