China censors Kyirong flood footage, grossly under-reports death toll

DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 31: Video footage capturing the terrifying moments when people fled a rapidly advancing wall of mud and debris at the Kyirong Port in occupied Tibet has reportedly been removed from Chinese social-media platforms, fuelling concerns over Beijing’s censorship of information surrounding the devastating Himalayan floods.

The footage, which circulated online following the disaster, reportedly shows people scrambling to escape moments before torrents of mud and floodwater engulfed parts of the Kyirong Port. Copies of some of the videos have continued to circulate outside China after the original posts were reportedly deleted.
