China has deployed more than 500 military personnel and rescue workers to Gyirong in Tibet after a massive flash flood triggered by the collapse of ice, mud and rock into a mountain river. Four military helicopters have been sent to survey the disaster zone, while rescue teams use heavy machinery and drones to search through debris and muddy floodwaters. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said 558 people remain missing in Gyirong County, including 260 foreign nationals, while the reported death toll stands at three.
