The Central Tibetan Administration has decided not to send an official delegation to the 17th International Association for Tibetan Studies Conference in Kathmandu, scheduled from August 23 to 29. The decision came after Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming met Nepali Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai on July 20 and raised concern over expected CTA participation, according to security officials cited in the report. CTA had planned to send five representatives from the Tibet Policy Institute, led by its Director. Tibetan scholars who registered may still attend personally. More than 700 delegates from 39 countries are expected.
