China has said a high-altitude glacier collapse in Nepal triggered the flash floods that swept through the Tibet-Nepal border region, as the disaster’s death toll crossed 547. Scientists are examining whether an ice-and-rock avalanche temporarily blocked the Lhende River before the natural barrier gave way, unleashing a surge into the Bhotekoshi river system.
