Four Tibetan marchers, including an 82-year-old elder, have launched a 400-mile peace march from Minnesota to the Chinese Consulate in Chicago. The rally honours Pawo Lobga Rangzen, who recently self-immolated outside the United Nations headquarters to protest Chinese rule in Tibet. Scheduled to conclude on the 49th day after his passing, a significant milestone in Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the journey seeks to highlight ongoing human rights abuses and state control over Tibetan culture. Supported by Midwestern communities, the marchers are demanding international action and an end to China's colonial occupation.
