Gonpo Kyi Continues Peaceful Protests in Lhasa, Demands Justice for Brother Dorjee Tashi

Gonpo Kyi, the sister of jailed Tibetan entrepreneur and political prisoner Dorjee Tashi, has continued her peaceful protests in Lhasa, demanding justice for her brother. A newly surfaced video dated October 26 shows her staging another protest, calling for justice and his release. For years, she has reportedly been denied access to her brother. While petitioning for his legal rights and access to a lawyer, she was allegedly assaulted by plainclothes Chinese police, dragged away and forcibly confined to a hotel. In August 2025, she reportedly attempted to jump from a hotel room amid her ongoing struggle to seek justice for her brother. Dorjee Tashi, a successful Tibetan businessman and philanthropist who once owned the luxury Yak Hotel in Lhasa, was arrested in July 2008 following mass protests across Tibet that spring. In 2010, he was sentenced to life imprisonment on what supporters describe as fabricated 'loan-fraud' charges. Human rights groups have questioned the case, alleging that his prosecution was politically motivated and intended to punish his alleged support for the Tibetan cause. Gonpo Kyi continues to demand a justice and her brother’s release.
