Lobga Rangzen Memorial Cycle Rally Ends in Dharamshala A group of Ten Tibetan volunteers completed a more than 360-kilometre cycle rally from Paonta Sahib to Dharamshala on Wednesday, August 19, concluding a week-long campaign centred on three key messages: honouring late Tibetan independence activist Lobga Rangzen, protesting China’s new so-called Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, and expressing gratitude to India for its continued support of Tibetans. The group began the ride from Paonta Sahib on August 13 and travelled more than 360 kilometres before reaching Dharamshala six days later. According to the organisers, the cycling campaign was organised around three demands and messages. The first was to remember and carry forward the aspirations of Lobga Rangzen, whose activism has inspired a series of commemorative and awareness-raising activities among Tibetans. The second was to protest China’s new Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, which came into force on July 1. The cyclists sought to draw attention to concerns over the impact of the law on Tibetans, particularly in relation to Tibetan identity, language and culture. The third message was a “Thank You India” campaign, expressing appreciation for India’s longstanding support and hospitality toward Tibetans living in exile. The cyclists completed their journey despite heavy monsoon conditions affecting northern India. After arriving in Dharamshala, they were welcomed by members of the Tibetan Youth Congress and Tibetans in the community.
