In 1921, Mahatma Gandhi launched the Tilak Swaraj Fund, which raised around one crore rupees in six months through mass small donations. Worth close to ₹1,000 crore (roughly US$105 million) in today’s terms, the money financed his Non-Cooperation Movement against British colonial rule in India.
