More than 35,000 people were relocated after two earthquakes struck Tsigorthang County in eastern Tibet’s Amdo region on July 28, with no deaths or injuries reported. The magnitude-5.7 and magnitude-5.8 quakes hit Xinghai County in Tsolho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai, within 18 minutes. Authorities activated a Level III emergency response and mobilized more than 700 rescue, security, firefighting, and armed-police personnel. Officials said roads and other infrastructure sustained varying damage across the county. They also warned that loosened soil and rocks, combined with heavy rain, could trigger landslides and other secondary disasters.
