Six Weeks On, Tibetans Continue to Remember Lobga Rangzen and Resist Cultural Assimilation On August 13, 2026,marking six weeks since Tibetan activist Lobga Rangzen self-immolated in front of the United Nations Headquarters in New York on July 2, 2026, a candlelight vigil was held in Dharamsala in his memory. Participants honored his sacrifice while raising concerns over China’s so-called “Ethnic Unity Law,” which they say threatens Tibetan language, culture, identity, and heritage. The vigil reaffirmed the commitment to keeping Lobga Rangzen’s message and the Tibetan freedom movement in the public focus. The candlelight vigil in Dharamsala was jointly organized by the Tibetan Women’s Association, Dhotoe Association, Dhomey Association, U-Tsang Association, and GTPM for Umaylam.
