Druk Bum Gyal, governor of Drakkar County in Tsolho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, has reportedly been dismissed and demoted after failing to enforce new restrictions on Tibetan religious practices. Authorities ordered five counties to curb Nyung-ne, a traditional Tibetan fasting retreat, restrict prayer flags, and display the Chinese national flag at household entrances. According to a Tibet Times report citing a source in Tibet, Druk Bum Gyal resisted immediate enforcement, warning that a sudden crackdown could provoke public reaction. Higher officials removed him from his posts and reassigned him to a minor role in the Tsolho Prefecture People’s Congress.
