Tibetan Solo Marcher Arrives in Leh After Month-Long Journey
Leh, Ladakh, India — August 16, 2026: Tibetan solo peace marcher Kalsang Tharchen reached the Tibetan settlement at Choglamsar in Leh at around 9 a.m. Sunday, marking another major stage in his month-long journey across the Himalayan region.
Tharchen was welcomed upon arrival by representatives of the Tibetan Settlement Office and members of the Tibetan community in Leh. His arrival comes after he travelled approximately 800 kilometres on foot, crossing Himalayan valleys and mountainous terrain since beginning his march from Dharamsala on July 15.
The journey has taken Tharchen through challenging mountain landscapes as he continues his solo peace march toward the high-altitude region of Ladakh.
In a recent interview, Tharchen said he intends to continue walking from Leh toward Pangong Tso, a high-altitude lake located close to the India-Tibet border.
